In the first half of the 16th century, a unique urban planning concept linked to the development of mining emerged in Saxony, which gradually spread throughout the Ore Mountains; some of the newly founded mining towns were designed according to uniform principles based on Renaissance ideals of the ideal city, which, however, had to be adapted to the specific topography, climatic conditions, and the changing needs of the inhabitants. As architects and new residents of one of these towns, we wish to use this brochure to present what has fascinated us from the start, and within its pages we present the story of the “catalog towns,” along with basic facts and points of interest about each town, with the aim of contributing to an understanding of the topic, sparking curiosity, or serving as a guide to lesser-known places in the Ore Mountains.
